  Chapter Three: Mansion vanishes

Mrs. Davis stopped her car in the exact spot in front of where her house used to stand. She knew it was the exact spot because of a plastic bottle at the end of the gravel driveway she ran over with her car when she was heading to the market as she waived by for the last time to her husband. She got out of her car and said, "Officer, come here, I've got something to show you as proof that my house was here and that I'm not imaging things."

Before the officer stepped out of his vehicle he got on his radio and called the station to let them know that they may have to send someone from the psych ward to take her in for a mental evaluation. The officer got out of his vehicle and approached Mrs. Davis to play along with the notion that there was a house, but in the back of his mind he was saying she is a nut case.

  Mrs. Davis said, "Look, officer?"

"Look at what Mrs. Davis?" asked the officer as he adjusted his hat.

"The bottle, I ran over this bottle as I was backing out of my driveway."

"Ok, then where is this house you claimed was here? All I see is a field of grass," said an impatient officer.

Mrs. Davis ran out in the field of grass and said, "This is where the house used to stand. Don't you believe me officer?"

"Sure, I do." Then the officer said to himself. “I've heard enough." Then he went back to his squad car, and got on his radio to tell them to send out someone from the psych ward to pick her up, and that he would take the children back to the station to see about placing them into foster care. Moments later a van pulled up behind the officer’s car and two men in white uniforms with a stretcher approached the officer and said, "We’re here to take Mrs. Davis with us to the hospital."

Mrs. Davis said, "What's going on here?"

The two men approached Mrs. Davis and she took off running through the field, and the children were crying back in their mother's car as the two men in white caught up with her, and gave her a shot to sedate her so they could strap her in the stretcher, and take her to the mental hospital for a mental evaluation.

The officer took the two children back to the police station to find them a home until Mrs. Davis was evaluated and deemed competent to get her two kids back.

But, that would not be the case because Mrs. Davis was having dreams about her husband calling her back to the property where the mansion used to sit.

Finally, after about a month Mrs. Davis was able to talk her psychiatrist and the officer that had her committed to let her have just one more chance to show proof that there really was a mansion on the property.

Mrs. Davis, the officer and psychiatrist got in the squad car and headed down the country roads in search of this ghost mansion.

As the squad car was approaching the property the officer's jaw dropped and he said, "Oh my God there really is a mansion on this property. How did I miss this? That is just impossible." The officer turned his head and apologized to Mrs. Davis for not believing her. He said he would have her released from the hospital and return her children to her.

The officer, psychiatrist and Mrs. Davis got out of the car. Then the front door of the mansion opened, and the man in black stepped out, and said, "Elizabeth, come inside your husband is waiting for you."

Elizabeth didn't realize it was a trick, but all she wanted was to see her husband and feel his warm embrace. She ran as fast as she could towards the front door. The wind was picking up and storm clouds were setting in. The officer and psychiatrist told her to wait for them, but all she thought of was her husband. Tears flowed down her cheeks as she ran through the tall grass to the mansion. What she thought was her husband was all an illusion just like the mansion and the man in black.

The officer said to the psychiatrist, "Something doesn't feel right about this. I know for a fact that when I was here yesterday there was no mansion."

"Let’s stop her before she enters the mansion," exclaimed the psychiatrist.

The officer and the psychiatrist yelled out to Mrs. Davis, but the thunder was so loud she couldn't hear a word they were saying.

Just as the officer and the psychiatrist reached the steps to the mansion it was too late. Mrs. Davis entered the front door of the mansion, and the man in black let out an eerie laugh, and the creaky door slammed shut, and the mansion vanished into thin air.

The officer and the psychiatrist looked at each and the officer said, "I'm not saying a word at what just happened." The psychiatrist said, "I'm not saying a word either."

The officer and the psychiatrist got in their cars and sped away to never share their secret with anyone because if they did they knew they both would be put in a mental hospital for the rest of their lives.

Legend has it if you travel down this old gravel road, and you happen to see the mansion, and brave enough to get out of your car, and enter the front door of the mansion you may vanish just like Mr. and Mrs. Davis did. That wouldn't happen to you, or, would it?”

“Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!” laughed the creepy man in black.
